Toggle navigation. Postdoctoral Fellow- Neuroscience and Brain Cancer. Employer: Houston Methodist Research Institute. Specifically, a position is available to study interactions between glioblastoma stem cells, astrocytes, and neurons within human organoids. We employ novel three-dimensional human pluripotent stem cell derived cultures organoids and spheroids , optogenetics, chemogenetics, transcriptomice, proteomics, multielectrode array electrophysiology, modern microscopy such as light sheet, cellular engraftments and molecular approaches to answer vital questions in neuroregeneration.

We are dedicated to translate innovative neuroscience research discoveries into clinical therapies for restoration of the nervous system after injury, neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, and disease conditions such as cancer.

Our state-of-the-art research facilities, core resources and academic program are designed to accelerate research progress in comparison to the classical academic setting. The postdoctoral candidate will have the unique opportunity to work closely with neurosurgeons e. In addition to conducting research, the applicant is expected to apply for fellowships, present at scientific meetings, publish manuscripts and mentor junior lab members in preparation for a future career as an independent scientist.

The applicant must be innovative and eager to disrupt the current state of stem cell biotechnology. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace. D required A letter from the academic institution certifying that all student work is complete will be considered for Postdoctoral Fellow 0 only.

Institute Associate Scientist II Neurodegeneration

To solve existential brain challenges spanning neurology, mental health, education, workforce development, and neuroscience—we need a fresh approach to technologies and investing. We need a new investment opportunity: Brain Capital. Human societies continue to be plagued by brain challenges , from mental health disorders and dementia to learning disabilities, the impact of long COVID, and disparities in educational health care access. Additionally, some of the most persistent social issues—homelessness, crime, death by despair—will be impossible to solve without attention to the root causes and address the treatment and support of individuals with brain disorders and vulnerabilities.

Marton Berczeli, Gavin W. Britz , Thomas Loh, Alan B. After the introduction of the first robotic-assisted surgical procedures, the technology soon reached the world of endovascular specialists, giving rise to several publications about robotic-assisted endovascular therapy. Compared with conventional procedures, robotic-assisted procedures can be more accurate and reduce radiation exposure. The latest commercially available endovascular robotic system is the CorPath GRX, which can be operated remotely. Robotic-assisted approaches have proved applicable in the fields of coronary and peripheral vascular intervention and neurointervention. Remote intervention has already proved feasible in the coronary and peripheral vascular systems and, according to expert opinion, could revolutionize acute stroke management as well. We review current knowledge about robotic-assisted therapies and remote interventions, and the future prospects and pitfalls. N2 - After the introduction of the first robotic-assisted surgical procedures, the technology soon reached the world of endovascular specialists, giving rise to several publications about robotic-assisted endovascular therapy.

Groundbreaking, collaborative, committed to results — this unique discovery model brings great minds together to deliver a future free from glaucoma. Why Restore Vision? Anna La Torre, an investigator with the Vision Restoration Initiative, explains why restoring vision is such a challenge. Anna La Torre, PhD: The goal of the Catalyst for a Cure Vision Restoration Team is to really bring together our expertise to try to find some ways to restore vision in patients that have lost, partially or totally, their vision in glaucoma. Restoring vision is a really challenging goal.

How are synapses affected during development, learning, and in response to injury? Michael Friedlander is the vice president for health sciences and technology at Virginia Tech, where he also serves as the founding executive director of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC and the senior dean for research at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. He has served as the principal investigator on multiple research grants on brain processes that mediate vision, developmental plasticity, and traumatic brain injury.

By day, I work with industry leaders, experts and scientists to determine best course of action to advance therapeutics. I am also brainstorming new strategies to enhance productivity; or charting business development plans. Then, I get to translate all of this into action plans and implementation strategies! Oversight of scientific procedures, laboratory function, negotiation and collaboration, maintenance, organization and record keeping.

I received my B. I completed my Ph. For my post-doctoral studies, I shifted my focus to developmental neurobiology and worked in Dr. During my post-doc I identified key transcriptional regulators that control developmental gliogenesis. I am interested in all things related to glial biology and have assembled an amazing team of students, post-docs, and technicians who share my passion for all things glial! High throughput sequencing has allowed for the molecular characterization of tumors on an incredible scale, but the functional relevance of this data is difficult to tease out. In an effort to begin identifying functionally relevant mutations towards glioma, we have designed tools to screen, en masse, on the scale of 50 different genetic components.

Astrocellular Therapeutics Lab. Su-Chun Zhang. During this time, he devised the first cellular system for the efficient generation of human glial progenitors and astrocyte subtypes from pluripotent stem cells and characterized their functionality.
